| 6th (Volunteer) Battalion The Queen's Regiment Formed 1 April 1971 with Headquarters at Wandsworth from cadres of 6th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment, 10th (T)Battalion The Queen's Regiment, The Greater London Regiment RA, The London and Kent Regiment RA and TheSurrey Yeomanry. Companies retained their own badges. COMPANIES: Battalion HQ (Queen's Surreys) at Wandsworth. Formed from cadre 6th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment. A Company (Middlesex) at Edgware. Formed from cadre 10th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment and Pltn 'D'Company 5th Battalion. B Battery (Greater London RA) at Hackney. Formed from cadre The Greater London Regiment RA. C Battery (21st London, 1st Surrey Rifles) at Camberwell. Formed from cadre The London and Kent Regiment RA. D Battery (Surrey Yeomanry QMR) at Sutton. Formed from cadre The Surrey Yeomanry. 26 November 1972: Companies rebadged. 1 April 1975: Battalion disbanded upon amalgamation with 7th (Volunteer) Battalion to form 6th/7th (Volunteer)Battalion. 'HQ' Company, 'C' Battery and 'D' Battery amalgamated to form 'D' Company 6th/7th (Volunteer) Battalion; 'A' Company formed part of 'B' Company 6th/7th (Volunteer) Battalion; 'B' Battery transferred to 4th (Volunteer) Battalion The Royal Green Jackets. 7th (Volunteer) Battalion The Queen's Regiment Formed 1 April 1971 with Headquarters at Horsham from cadres of 6th (T), 7th (T), 8th (T) and 9th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment and elements 5th (Volunteer) Battalion. COMPANIES: Battalion HQ (Royal Sussex) at Horsham from cadres 8th (T) and 9th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment. A Company (Queen's Surreys) at Farnham from cadre 6th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment. B Company (Queen's Own Buffs) at Folkestone with Pltn at Dover from cadre 7th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment. C Company (Royal Sussex) at Crawley with Pltn at Horsham from cadres 8th (T) and 9th (T) Battalion The Queen's Regiment and Pltn 'E' Company 5th Battalion. 'HQ' Company (Royal Sussex) started to form from end 1972. 8 October 1973: subtitles omitted. 1974: Horsham Pltn 'C' Company re-located at Haywards Heath. 1 April 1975: Battalion disbanded upon amalgamation with 6th (Volunteer) Battalion to form 6th/7th (Volunteer)Battalion. 'HQ' Company, 'A' Company and 'C' Company redesignated as 'HQ' Company, 'A' Company and 'C' Company 6th/7th (Volunteer) Battalion respectively; 'B' Company merged with 'B' Company 5th (Volunteer) Battalion. 6th/7th (Volunteer) Battalion The Queen's Regiment Formed 1 April 1975 with Headquarters at Horsham by amalgamation of 6th (Volunteer) Battalion and 7th (Volunteer) Battalion. COMPANIES: HQ Company at Horsham formed by redesignation of 'HQ' Company 7th Battalion. A Company at Farnham formed by redesignation of 'A' Company 7th Battalion. B Company at Hornsey with Pltn at Edgware formed by merger of 'D' Company 5th Battalion and 'A' Company 6th (Volunteer) Battalion. C Company at Crawley with Pltn at Haywards Heath formed by redesignation of 'C' Company 7th Battalion. D Company at Wandsworth, Camberwell and Sutton formed by amalgamation of 'HQ' Company, 'C' Battery and 'D' Battery 6th Battalion. Battle honours added as company subtitles later (but before 1987) as follows: 'HQ' (Alamein) Company, 'A' (Salerno) Company, 'B' (Albuhera) Company, 'C' (Quebec) Company, 'D' (Highwood) Company. 16 May 1988: 'B' Company at Hornsey and Edgware transferred as 'B' Company 8th Battalion The Queen's Fusiliers and 'D' Company at Camberwell as 'A' Company 8th Battalion The Queen's Fusiliers. New 'B' (Somme) Company formed at Brighton with Pltn at Worthing and new 'D' (Tangier) Company formed at Kingston and Sutton from platoons old 'D' Company 6th/7th (Volunteer) Battalion and 'A' Company 5th (Volunteer) Battalion. 9 September 1992: Battalion reorganised as 6th/7th (Volunteer) Battalion The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment with part of 2nd Battalion The Wessex Regiment on a three rifle company basis: 'C' Company merged into 'HQ' Company; 'D' Company disbanded |
